For most of us breakfast is the most important meal of the day, or should be, so when I was told I had a wheat intolerance my first thought was, breakfast will never be the same again.
After a several months of trawling the health food shops and super markets for a healthy tasty cereal, and finding none, I decided the only thing to do was to make my own. First I made a list of all the things I could eat, then all the things I liked to eat and set about mixing, baking, and re mixing until I felt the quantities of each ingredient was right. I wanted something that was easy to prepare first thing in the morning, something that was tasty, wasn’t a chore to eat and would help keep me satisfied until lunch time. Sounds easy! That procedure took me almost three years and then another year to “ tweak “everything until I was totally satisfied with my product. (Making my friends and family into tasters until without exception they all loved the new and improved cereal, they ate an awful lot of cereal!)
I also wanted to make it as healthy as possible, so there is no whey powder, colouring or artificial sweeteners. The sweetness comes from maple syrup and the grains that are toasted to make them crunchy and delicious. A good breakfast is all about fuelling the body with energy to start the day, and the best morning meal should include complex carbohydrates in the form of whole grains and fibre , that’s why several of the ingredients in my cereal are slow release carbohydrates, so a 100gm portion mixed with your favourite yoghurt and perhaps topped with fresh fruit is the perfect start to any day.
Of course, there are other ways to enjoy my Wheat Free Cereal, for instance, why not sprinkle it over ice cream, top your fruit crumbles with it or just carry it around with you for a healthy snack.
Up until now, my cereal has been sold only in the Isle of Man where I live and where it is made. I’m hoping with this web site to reach a wider audience and help everyone enjoy their breakfasts with this healthy, tasty Wheat Free Cereal.
